One hundred forty four words put L second and A third, and a short list of consonants in front of the L carries nearly all of them.
C takes twenty seven of the one hundred forty four, F takes twenty four, B takes twenty one and S takes twenty, with P and G behind them. Only ten letters appear in that box at all.
N takes it in twenty six of the one hundred forty four, well ahead of anything else. PLANS, BLAND, CLANG, BLANK and PLANT all come from that one letter.
That gives the page an unusual character. Confirm the fourth letter as N and you still face a wide choice, because the ND, NG, NK and NT endings all live there.
BLACK, PLACE, CLASS, FLASH and PLANT are the most common. GLASS, CLAIM, PLATE, PLAIN and BLANK all come up constantly.
S closes thirty eight of the one hundred forty four and E closes twenty eight, with K on thirteen from BLACK, CLACK and SLACK. Those three cover most of the last box.
PLACE tests the E ending and the C, and BLACK tests the K. PLACE is marginally better because the E box is busier than the K box.
ALARM, ALAMO, ALATE and ALACK all put L second and A third without a consonant cluster. They are the quiet exception to the pattern this page is built on.
Blare is a loud harsh sound and blase means unimpressed through overfamiliarity. Two very different words sharing three letters.
