A takes the second box in one hundred thirty two of the six hundred forty nine, twenty percent, with O on one hundred five, I on eighty seven, R on eighty two, E on eighty three and U on seventy two. L adds fifty more.
PRICE, PRIDE, PRINT, PROUD and PRESS carry the R branch. PLACE, PLANT, PLAIN, PLATE and PLUMB carry L. Both are dense with ordinary words, and between them they hold one hundred thirty two of the six hundred forty nine.
H takes the second box in only seventeen words, but PHONE, PHOTO and PHASE are all common enough to be wanted. It is the smallest branch with real vocabulary in it.
Because the H sounds nothing like a P, players scanning by sound tend to skip the branch entirely. If the obvious vowels are ruled out, check it before anything else.
