405 five letter words begin with N, and every one of the four main branches is a vowel.
A takes about twenty six percent, O twenty three, and E and I eighteen each. U adds another ten.
N forms no consonant blend at the start of an English word, so those five vowels are effectively the whole page.
NORTH, NEVER, NIGHT, NEEDS and NOTES are the most common entries, and they sit across four different branches.
The U branch is the smallest of the five and NURSE carries most of it. Y appears in barely two percent and leads nowhere familiar.
NOTES is the best single opener. It tests four common letters and its S ending is shared by a large slice of the group.
NIGHT is the natural follow up, since its G and H rule out a shape that nothing on the A or O branch uses.
N sits at the front of a syllable and needs a vowel to carry it. English has no NR, NL or NT opening for the same reason it has no MR.
NOTES and NIGHT. Between them they test eight distinct letters across the two largest branches and the I branch.
It clears three vowels at once, which is its strength. The trade off is that its remaining letters are less informative than NOTES offers.
