One hundred twenty two words put S first and R third, and the second box is flatter here than on almost any page in this family.
C and E tie at eighteen words each, O takes seventeen, T takes sixteen, U takes fourteen and A takes twelve. Six letters inside a handful of words of each other.
That makes the second box a poor first guess. Whichever letter you pick, most of the page survives it, so the useful work is further along the word.
T takes sixteen words and P takes eleven, and those two branches are the ones with three consonants running before any vowel. They behave differently from the rest because the vowel cannot arrive until the fourth box.
A and E fill that box in fifty four of the one hundred twenty two between them, twenty four percent for A alone. So the fourth box is where this page narrows, not the second.
S closes twenty one of these, seventeen percent, well ahead of E on twelve. Eleven words repeat a letter, mostly the doubled E of SCREE, SIREE and SAREE, so a visible repeat points at a small corner of the page.
The fourth box. A and E take fifty four of the one hundred twenty two between them, which is far more decisive than anything the second box offers.
They differ in a single box and both are common. Take one and spend the other turn on a different branch entirely, like SIREN or SERVE.
A stringed instrument. It sits in the A branch alongside SARIN and SARGE, none of which you would reach for unprompted.
