Sixteen words put A first and P third, and seven of them repeat a letter. That is nearly half the page, which is very unusual.
P takes the second box in seven of the sixteen, forty four percent, and every one of those words doubles the P automatically. APPLE, APPLY, APPAL and APPEL all work this way.
So a visible repeat does not narrow much here. It tells you which branch you are in and leaves the rest of the word open, which is the opposite of how a double behaves on most pages.
They differ only in the last box and both are ordinary words, so landing on APP leaves a genuine coin flip. APPAL and APPEL do the same thing one step over.
