Thirty seven words place E second and W third, and a lot of them are simply past tenses.
DEWED, HEWED, MEWED, REWED, SEWED and TEWED are all the same move, a short verb taking ED. Seven of the thirty seven finish that way.
That is worth knowing because it makes the last two boxes predictable. If the word is a verb, ED is the first thing to test.
NEWLY, FEWER, NEWER, JEWEL, SEWER and NEWTS are the entries you are most likely to want. LEWIS and PEWIT are recognisable but far less common.
E takes the fourth box in eighteen of the thirty seven, well ahead of A on seven and I on six. So the usual shape is EW followed by E and then one more letter.
N and D each close seven of the thirty seven, with R on six. Between them those three take a large share of the last box.
The rest is thin. Eleven letters appear there in all, and most of them turn up once or twice.
NEWLY tests the Y ending and the L. FEWER repeats the E, which wastes part of the guess, so NEWLY is usually stronger.
A lapwing, named after the sound it makes. PEWEE is a related bird name and both appear here.
To win something again. It sits beside REWAX, REWED and REWET, which are all the re prefix doing ordinary work.
