Twenty four words put I second and X third, and the number words take a surprising share of them.
SIXTH, SIXTY, SIXES, SIXER, SIXTE and SIXMO all build on the number. S opens six of the twenty four, more than any other letter, and every one of those is a SIX word.
SIXTE is a fencing parry and SIXMO a paper folding size, so two of them are specialist. The rest are ordinary vocabulary anyone would recognise.
FIXED, FIXER and FIXES all exist, and MIXED, MIXER, MIXES and NIXED, NIXER, NIXES follow exactly the same shape. E takes the fourth box in fifteen of the twenty four as a result.
FIXED, MIXED, SIXTH, PIXEL and VIXEN are the entries most likely to be wanted. SIXTY, MIXER and PIXIE are worth holding in reserve.
The X is a high scoring tile in both Scrabble and Words With Friends, and finding somewhere to put it is the usual problem. A five letter word that takes it in the third box solves that.
SIXTH tests the T and H, which the conjugating verbs never use. FIXED confirms the busiest fourth letter but leaves three verb families live.
Zero of the twenty four do. Every entry here uses a different letter in each box.
A dung heap or refuse pile, a dialect word from farming. VIXEN sits beside it and is far likelier to be the answer.
